Originally, ribbed, also known as border strip, was used to separate wallpaper from ceiling, or wallpaper and floor, but in the 21st century it has given way to many other creative ideas. When used playfully, it can be used to frame doors and windows, but it looks better in children's rooms and can highlight less important wall surfaces. It is most often placed on the wall as a color separation line, which can be solved horizontally or even vertically. It can be glued to wallpaper or painted surfaces, but in any case it should be applied according to the recommended instructions. If you choose a horizontal border strip, it will look really neat if you wrap it completely around the room, while with the vertical one you need to take care to put it in a justified place. For example, with a vertical ribbed, you can divide a larger bedroom into two, resulting in two different moods: in one part you can place the bed, and in the other you can place a bookcase with a reading lamp and a comfortable armchair. Based on this, we can also create a sleeping area and a play corner in the children's room, for example.
Since it is produced in different widths, it is important to know that a narrower ribbed will visually increase the headroom, while a wider one will decrease it. In terms of pattern, solid color border stripes are not really available, but there is a wide range of ribs with flowers, geometric shapes, motifs related to kitchens and decorations for children. Decorative strips suitable for practically any room and suitable for children and adults are now easily available.
Sticking it on is not a big deal, we can do it ourselves. The first step is to clean the selected wall surface from grease, dust and other dirt. Then, using a spirit level, it is necessary to precisely mark the location of the ribcage. It is advisable to start applying a strip evenly smeared with the appropriate type of glue, starting from an inner corner, taking care of the continuity of the pattern. As a finishing touch, it is necessary to remove any air bubbles that may have formed during gluing with a wallpaper smoothing brush. The type of glue depends on the surface on which we need to apply the decorative strip. If we want to put it on plastic-coated wallpaper, then we will need special ribbed glue, by the way, ordinary wallpaper glue is also suitable. There are also self-adhesive border strips that need to be applied in the same way as the other variety, except that it already has an adhesive surface on the back. So you have to go little by little, peel off the back from about a 10 cm piece at a time, and then once it is glued, you can continue the operation. At the end, it should be smoothed out with a dry cloth or sponge in motions from the center to the edges, making sure that it sticks properly everywhere.
In terms of price, it is not a huge expense and it is also easy to install, but in the end it will still make a big difference to the atmosphere of the premises. It sticks to both painted and wallpapered surfaces, so you don't have to worry about that, just don't forget to get the right type of glue.
